Why would I want to use a transportation broker instead of dealing "direct"?
Many times we are asked why anyone would want to use a broker. There are numerous responses and reasons, each of which is different for shippers vs. carriers. As a shipper, a broker can fill a niche that can enhance a company's transportation program. Many brokers have contacts throughout the shipping industry which may allow them to offer services to a shipper they otherwise would have to handle in house. One call to a broker may resolve a lane issue that would otherwise require a multitude of calls within their own transportation department. This requires time, manpower, and money. A shipper can effectively "outsource" their transportation department to a broker, thus eliminating much of the costs of that department, while still obtaining the service requirements their customers need. In addition, reputable brokers have good, quality carriers already servicing their requirements. This reduces the possibility of finding a "bad" carrier.
